MLS Season Pass and Messi are back for a second season on Apple TV.

MLS Season Pass and Messi are back for a second season on Apple TV.

Last season, Apple TV and Major League Soccer announced MLS Season Pass. This add-on to the popular streaming service allows users to watch all Major League Soccer games without blackouts.

And now Season 2 begins. Starting today (January 29), adding the MLS Season Pass to Apple TV Plus will give you access to every game of the 2024 MLS season. It also includes access to Lionel Messi and Inter Miami during their preseason tour, as well as the highly anticipated match between Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal SFC and its star player, and longtime Messi rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, you may be thinking, "Does this mean I need to sign up for Apple TV Plus?" You might think. No, it does not. You don't have to have Apple's streaming service. All you need is access to the free Apple TV app on your TV, streaming device, or iPhone. From there, you can sign up for an MLS Season Pass for a small additional fee, without requiring an Apple TV Plus subscription.

MLS Season Pass remains one of the best all-access sports streaming services on the market; NBA League Pass, NFL Sunday Ticket, and MLB.TV all come with fine print and TV blackouts. Game broadcasts may be limited to 1080p streaming, but you can watch up to four at the same time, just like YouTube TV's Multiview. Let's talk about the score.

MLS Season Pass is available in over 100 countries and regions, and as mentioned, it offers all MLS games without blackouts; if you sign up through the Apple TV app without subscribing to Apple TV Plus, the Season Pass costs $14.99/month/ 14.99/£14.99/$22.99 per month, or a one-time payment of $99/£99/$149 for the entire season.

Discounts are available for Apple TV Plus subscribers, who can purchase a season pass for just $12.99/£12.99/$19.99 AUD per month, or $79/£79/$119 AUD for the entire season in one lump sum. can be purchased for a fee of $79 / £79 / $119 AUD.

Regardless of how you sign up, you can share your MLS Season Pass with up to six family members using Apple's Family Sharing, as long as each has their own Apple ID and password.

Although Apple has not yet announced anything further in terms of pricing, it is possible that Apple will once again offer the opening weekend of the MLS season for free like it did last season with the MLS Season Pass. In that case, all you would need is an Apple ID. (An Apple ID can be created for free.)

The MLS Season Pass has several benefits. It is organized in a really clean way and the interface changes based on the team you choose to follow. The team page offers highlights, past games, player profiles and other content between events. You can also receive match reminders on your Apple Watch across devices.

One of the best features, however, is "MLS 360." This program is similar to the NFL's "RedZone" and provides viewers with "live looks at every game, goals, penalty kicks, big saves, analysis, and discussion." And this year, Apple is offering "MLS 360" on its Spanish-language broadcasts as well as its English-language broadcasts.

MLS Season Pass has already done a decent job with its language offerings. Last season, Apple offered both English and Spanish commentary options, and games against Canadian teams included a French commentary option. However, adding Spanish-language coverage of "MLS 360" is a big win for Spanish-speaking viewers.
