Ring's flat-rate camera plans increase in price - how much more expensive?

Arlo is not the only company raising the price of its video doorbells and security cameras; Ring has announced that beginning next month, March 11, it will raise its Ring Protect Basic plan for a single camera to $4.99 per month ($49.99 per year). This would increase the new rate for the entry-level service by 25% from $39.99 ($3.99/month). An additional $10 per year may not seem like much at first glance, but it is double the price of the plan only two years ago. This raises the question of how often the fee will be raised in the future.

The best video doorbells and security cameras can display live feeds of the premises and send motion notifications without a subscription. However, Ring and others such as Arlo and Nest continue to offer the most useful features, such as viewing event records and cloud video storage, for a fee without adding new features. A cost breakdown can be seen in the comparison of security camera storage plans.

Competitors in the home security space such as Eufy and Wyze offer some cloud storage as well as local storage options that do not require a subscription. Even Blink, Amazon's affordable security camera brand, offers local storage through a Sync module that is purchased separately.

The announcement follows Ring's rival Arlo's price increase earlier this month for its subscription service.

If you sign up for the Ring Protect Basic annual plan by March 11, you will pay the current rate for one year. For now, Ring is keeping the price of its multi-camera plan, Ring Protect Plus, at $10/month or $100/year.

Ring also recently introduced Ring Battery Doorbell Pro, an advanced version of Ring Battery Doorbell Plus.
