Top 5 Netflix Horror Movies to Watch Now

Netflix is a hub for horror, whatever the subgenre. In addition to blockbuster horror, the lineup includes many Netflix originals. Of course, the spooky season tends to have the widest assortment of horror, but the streaming service offers thrills and chills all year round.

Between truly terrifying films like "It" and quirky film series like "Fear Street," Netflix has tried-and-true slashers and supernaturals, along with satirical pieces that lovingly make fun of the genre. So, here are the best Netflix horror movies to stream on your next Netflix & Chill marathon.

Some parents share eye color with their children, while others share an astral ability to drag them into a demonic dimension; in the 2010 film "Insidious," the Lambert family discovers that their comatose son is not medically ill but trapped in a dimension called the "further dimension." The story is that an evil spirit takes over their son's body while he is there.

Patrick Wilson, the star of The Conjuring, plays Josh Lambert (the father) and Rose Byrne plays Renée Lambert (the mother). Meanwhile, Ty Simpkins will play Dalton, a troubled child, and Lynn Shaye will play a psychic who knows too much about her family. There are five series in the franchise, but only the first and final film is available on Netflix.

In the 10 years since its release, The Babadook has developed a cult following. This terrifying shadow monster has even become an LGBTQ+ icon. When parents read "Where the Babysitters Are" to their children, the monster does not usually appear in the closet. Unfortunately, a grieving single mother and her son do not have the same luck in this film.

"The Babadook" is as much a psychological horror film as it is a terrifying supernatural thriller: like "Beer Juice," it is a thousand times more sinister. But even if you get scared after watching the movie, the threat of "The Babadook" is considerably lessened if you refer to the numerous memes that abound on the street. Essie Davis stars as Amelia Vanek and Noah Wiseman plays her son in this film written and directed by Jennifer Kent.

Clowns haunt people's nightmares for a reason. Stephen King's "It" chronicles the lives of children in a small town called Derry who fight off a primordial being disguised as a clown named Pennywise.

Evidently, the murderous clown eats children for breakfast. He also comes only every 27 years.

"Part I" depicts the children's childhood battles; the sequel, "Part II," follows them into adulthood, when they realize that the slingshot wasn't as effective as they thought it was.

Bill Skarsgård stars as Pennywise, and the film's child actors have gone on to very impressive careers. The cast includes Jaden Martel (Bill Denbrough), Finn Wolfhard (Richie Tozer), Sophia Lillis (Beverly Marsh), and Chosen Jacobs (Mike Hanlon). Part 1 is available for streaming on Netflix, while Part 2 is only available for rent or purchase.

What could possibly go wrong while living in the town of Shady Side, Netflix's three-part "Fear Street," based on the series of the same name by R.L. Stine, follows three centuries of grisly murders. Each film centers on a different year and a rotating ensemble cast, alternating between 1994, 1978, and 1666 (the year numbers are not coincidental). [Satirical slashers and intense supernatural motifs alternate, offering horror fans the best of both worlds. Also not to be missed is the spectacular slasher sequence that takes place in a shopping mall. The trilogy features actors Sadie Sink (Ziggy Berman), Matthew Zook (Mayor Will Goode), Gillian Jacobs (adult Ziggy), Maya Hawk (Heather), and Kiana Madeira (Deena). The three Netflix Original Movies, all available for streaming on the site.

"The Babysitter" may not be a top-class horror film, but satirical horror is as much a part of the genre as serious (and scary) horror. Sometimes you need a dumb horror comedy that delivers laughs and jump scares, and "The Babysitter" is just that. This 2017 film stars Samara Weaving as a self-proclaimed babysitter and Judah Lewis as a kid named Cole. As one might expect, the babysitter has a secret. No, she just belongs to a Satanist cult and is not afraid to become a cutthroat.

The film also stars Robbie Amell (Max), Hana Mae Lee (Sonya), Bella Thorne (Allison), and Ken Marino (Papa) McG directed and Brian Duffield wrote the screenplay. A sequel is also available on Netflix.
