It is not every day that a critically acclaimed show is cancelled. Unfortunately, however, "This Fool" was canceled by Hulu yesterday (February 14) after only two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter announced.

The comedy, starring and written by Chris Estrada, about a 30-year-old man working in a Los Angeles gang rehabilitation facility, received a 100% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes for both its first and second seasons. Metacritic gave season one a metascore of 77 and a user rating of 8.8 out of 10, indicating "universal admiration" for the TV show.

Season 1 in particular garnered great praise from critics. Rolling Stone's Alan Spinwall named an episode of "Y Tu Julio También" one of the best TV episodes of 2022, and The New Yorker named it one of the best TV shows of 2022.

Season 2 remained particularly beloved by viewers. The second season actually received high ratings from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, up 4% to 95% Fresh.

In other words, all viewers seemed to like the Hulu original production. There is just one problem.

After all, "This Idiot," despite its rave reviews, seems to have had trouble finding an audience. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu tried extensive marketing for the show's second season, but the audience numbers were not where the streaming service wanted them to be.

And speaking of those reviews, while nearly all were positive, they were not numerous. Season 1 had just 13 on Rotten Tomatoes, and Season 2 had just 7. Despite the increase in viewer favorability, the number of viewer reviews also dropped by almost half over the two seasons.

To be honest, I feel a little personally responsible for this. I had heard good things about the show from people I trusted. I even heard Estrada give an interview prior to season 2 and was looking forward to starting watching it. Besides, the show features Michael Imperioli, whose performance as Minister Payne intrigued me when I saw the show's promotional materials.

However . I have never seen the show. I don't know if it was because I missed the first season, had other commitments, or some other reason, but I never got to see a single episode. I know that my one viewing did not save the show, but I am disappointed now that a really good show has failed to find an audience.
