New Netflix Sci-Fi Comedy Drama Makes Top 10 - 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix's best shows aren't always original projects, as a new series of sci-fi comedy-dramas has arrived on the streaming service.

The show in question is called "Resident Alien," and after debuting on SyFy in 2021, the move to Netflix has brought this highly underrated show to an even wider audience. Resident Aliens" has been on Netflix for less than a week and already ranks as the #2 most-watched show on the streaming platform.

"Resident Alien" is currently behind the latest season of Netflix's reality dating show "Love is Blind," but is ahead of high-profile originals like "One Day" and "Griselda" and true crime documentary " American Nightmare" are held in check.

At the time of this writing, Netflix is offering the first two seasons of this show, with the third season currently airing on SyFy (but will probably move to Netflix later). So, if you have never seen this sci-fi show, you can catch up on a lot of extraterrestrial antics. Below are all the details you need to know before adding "Resident Alien" to your Netflix watch list.

Based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, "Resident Alien" follows an intergalactic Martian on a mission to exterminate all humans on Earth. But when his spaceship crash-lands in the small Colorado town of Patience, he is forced to impersonate Dr. Harry Vanderspaegle (Alan Tudyk) and blend in with the locals.

Fascinated by the townspeople, Harry learns about human society and even begins to wonder if he wants to go on a subversive mission. However, his true identity is in danger of being exposed by Max (Judah Plain), a young boy who sees through Harry's disguise.

While it is hard enough just to lay low and avoid attracting attention, Harry is soon ordered to assist in a local murder investigation and must quickly gain the trust of police officers who are looking for someone acting suspiciously.

"Resident Evil" is currently something of a critics' darling, with the comedy-drama show holding an impressive 97% on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. The ratings are also high at 86%, suggesting that the series is enjoyed by critics and viewers alike.

Lucy Mangan, a reporter for The Guardian, wrote: "'Resident Evil' knows what it is doing and does it with admirable sincerity. It deploys overused clichés without irony and plays off others without exhausting the audience."

Alan Tudyk's lead performance was praised by Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times, and Stephen Green of the Indy Wire, even though Tudyk has some "elements that sometimes drag [Resident Aliens] down." enough to keep it entertaining, he said. John Anderson of [The Wall Street Journal] was similarly impressed with Tudyk, calling him one of the show's "secret weapons," and Brian Talerico of RogerEbert.com wrote, "Despite its frustrating structure, 'BioAlien' is a cast Despite its frustrating structure, 'Bio Aliens' is an easily enjoyable series, thanks in part to its cast."

Not all critics were positive, however. The Hollywood Reporter's Dan Fienberg criticized SyFy for the inconsistent tone of the show, stating that "by the end of seven episodes, I was sick of wading through half a dozen plots I didn't care about for one or two that I did."

"Resident Aliens" is an effective mix of comedy and drama. There is a lot of slapstick as Harry is unfamiliar with human customs and social etiquette, and there is some emotional punch, especially thanks to the character of Asta (Sarah Tomko), the town's head nurse, who has a tragic back story. In addition, the murder mystery element adds to the suspense. [25] [26] With an engaging performance by Alan Tudyk, "Resident Evil" has many elements to like. Hopefully by the time you finish watching the whole thing, the third season will have finished airing on SyFy and be ready for distribution on Netflix. If you're looking for something new on Netflix, "Resident Aliens" is a sci-fi series with a lot to offer and at its core, a very strong cast.
