9 New Movies and Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Hulu and More (March 1-3)

It's the start of the madness, as March begins with a slew of new shows and movies on Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services.

This weekend, FX's epic drama "Shogun," the spiritual successor to "Game of Thrones," tops the list. Also premiering is "Elsbeth," a spin-off of "The Good Wife" and a howdanite crime mystery.

On the film side, Adam Sandler plays a lonely astronaut in "Spaceman." In addition, "Napoleon" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" will make their subscription streaming debuts. Click here for a guide to this weekend's viewing.

Finding the next "Game of Thrones" is a big priority for networks and streamers; HBO has done it by simply making a prequel; FX may have found a true spiritual successor with "Shogun;"

"The Lost Kingdom of Aquaman" is a great example of a "Game of Thrones" that is "a game of thrones.

Adapted from the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell, the epic film is set in feudal Japan circa 1600 and follows three protagonists whose fates intersect: Lord Toranga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a strong lord with a dangerous rival; John Blackthorne, a shipwrecked English sailor ( Cosmo Jarvis), and Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai), a woman from a disgraced family who must prove her worth.

No dragons or white walkers appear, but bloody battles, political intrigue, and power struggles unfold with impeccable acting, costumes, and production design.

Episodes 1 and 2 are available on Hulu

Kate Winslet returns to HBO in the lead role of a limited series following the highly successful "East Town Lovers." The Regime" follows a year inside the palace of a crumbling authoritarian government, and has a darkly comedic "Succession" feel to it.

Winslet is the prime minister of a fictional European dictatorship who finds her position threatened by the domestic turmoil caused by the imprisonment of the opposition leader (Hugh Grant). The prime minister faces trouble from all sides, including her fat husband (Guillaume Gallienne) and the snooty U.S. Secretary of State (Martha Plimpton).

Premieres March 3 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max

"The Good Wife" and its first spin-off, "The Good Fight," featured a rotating cast of top-notch guest stars. But the standout of the bunch was Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni.

Now, Elsbeth gets her own spinoff and is hired as an observer for the NYPD. Her bright, if unconventional, mindset is perfect for the role, but her eccentricities irritate her colleagues Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce) and Officer Kaya Blanke (Carla Patterson).

Like its predecessor, "Elsbeth" features a stellar cast, including Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Blair Underwood, and Leta.
