Pixel Watch 3 to Fix Wearable's Biggest Weakness

In January, a Google source reportedly claimed that the Pixel Watch 3 would part ways with the first two generations by offering a choice of two different sizes.

At the time, it was not clear exactly what the dimensions offered would be, but now 9to5Google has spoken with sources who confirm that the larger Pixel Watch 3 will be 45mm in size.

Assuming the smaller model maintains the same 41mm shell, this would be consistent with the Apple Watch Series 9, which offers the same 41/45 choices, but slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, which sells 40mm and 44mm options.

In these cases, both Apple and Samsung charge an extra $30 for the larger model, and the decision is not just about weight and screen size. Google is likely to do the same, suggesting that prices will start at $349 and $379, if the previous two Pixel Watches are any guide.

But it could also outbid its rivals by offering both at the same suggested retail price. There is some precedent here: Garmin charges $449 for either the 45mm Venu 3 or the 41mm "S" version.

Generally, a larger shell means a larger battery, but not for as long on the wrist.

Nevertheless, the impressive battery life of 100 hours achieved by the OnePlus Watch 2 on Wear OS suggests that by utilizing the same hybrid interface (where the microcontroller unit is used more than the application processor), Google The potential to achieve similar gains suggests that by offering two sizes and addressing current battery limitations, the Pixel Watch 3 would be a serious contender in the world of high-end smartwatches.

As well as confirmation regarding a second size for the Pixel Watch, the 9to5Google report also confirms that a second generation of Pixel Buds Pro is on the way.

Details about the earphones are still unknown, but it is expected that sound quality, battery life, and noise cancellation will be better than usual at launch.

No date is given, but given that the previous generation was announced in May 2022, it may debut at the upcoming Google I/O, which is likely scheduled for May again.
