How to watch "The Regime" online from anywhere: release date, channel, cast

Writer, executive producer, and showrunner Will Tracy ("Succession," "The Menu") would have had no trouble finding inspiration in creating "The Regime" Despite the lessons of the 1930s, right-wing demagogues, populists, and autocratic leaders suddenly seem to be all the rage again. Fortunately for Tracy, they also lend themselves to biting political satire: with a VPN, one can watch "The Regime" online from anywhere in the world.

One can only imagine the fun the screenwriters had while creating Prime Minister Elena Burnham. First, they mixed Argentina's former first lady, Eva Peron, with equal parts Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, then added a generous dose of mid-1980s vintage Margaret Thatcher, along with the essence of Viktor Orban, a greedy man from Hungary Pour into a baking tray.

When all is said and done, garnish with a pinch of Liz Truss for comedic value and hand this piece to Kate Winslet to make it all work. And it works.

Taking its most obvious cues from Armando Iannucci's 2017 film, "The Death of Stalin," Tracy's six-episode miniseries is packed with the hallmarks of a tyrannical, anti-democratic regime in crisis: a narcissistic leader with hypochondria, an every-thing A flirtatious sycophant, a Rasputin-like figure (Corporal Herbert Zubak, played by Matthias Schoenaerts).

The film depicts a year in which Prime Minister Varnum makes the Grand Hotel, where he has been commandeered, his headquarters and prison, increasingly insane, but the world events surrounding this fictional Central European nation are uncomfortably close to what is happening in real life today. This is when the black comedy stops and the satire becomes more urgent. Don't miss it.
