Apple is set for an exciting week with the release of an update to its Beats Solo 4 headphones, coinciding with the pre-order launch of the new MacBook Air M3
With no major hardware update since September 2016, the Beats Solo line has long been due for a revival, and according to Mark Gurman, a longtime Apple insider writing for Bloombeg, it could be back any day now
Gurman claims that the new Beats Solo 4 headphones will feature several enhancements, including USB-C connectivity and spatial audio Also, leaked images from a few weeks ago suggest that the Beats Solo 4 will come in three main colors: blue, pink, and black
The reveal of the new Beats Solo headphones was first leaked by code within Apple's iOS 174 software update Images leaked with the information (thanks to MacRumors) show that the Solo 4 version will remain largely unchanged design-wise, keeping the same general look as the previous model
In addition to personalized spatial audio, the Solo 4 headphones could also bring some features seen on previous Beats products, including simple tap gestures These include pressing the Beats "b" button twice to skip songs, a long press to activate Siri, and a simple tap to play or pause music or answer a call
Little else is known about the new Beats Solo 4, but it could be the best headphones to be released this year
As already mentioned, the Beats Solo 3 headphones were released in September 2016 for $299 Apple's last Beats headphones were the Beats Studio Pro, released in July 2023, which did not fare well in our review at the time
The Beats Solo 4, an even more impressive upgrade from the Beats Solo Pro model, could bring real competition from powerhouses like Sony and Sennheiser in the $200 headphone range
