Strava Announces Integration with Oura - What Does It Mean for You?

Strava has announced its latest integration with Oura, the leading smart ring for stress, sleep, fitness, and health management at your fingertips Here's what we know so far about this exciting collaboration, which will launch on March 5, 2024.

According to Strava, the integration will allow users to take a "complete approach to training" within the Strava platform, bringing health scores for recovery, activity, and sleep directly from the Oura app into Strava's Activity Strava data will also contribute to Oura's overall health score.

Members will have access to even more feedback on their health and fitness, allowing them to gather a more holistic approach to their training performance and recovery efforts. Below is the information you need and how to get started.

By connecting Strava and Oura Ring profiles, members can compile pre- and post-workout efforts and activity performance to "tell the complete story of an athlete's performance and improvement."

"Pursuing your personal best means cultivating your overall health," says Zipporah Allen, Strava's chief business officer. It's about integrating with a trusted partner so that athletes "have the tools they need to optimize every aspect of their active lives."

In short, Oura members can share key statistics of their choice directly to Strava activities and can choose which activities to pair data with in the form of complementary media such as images and video.

According to the company's press release, Strava wants to be "the core of your active life" and could become a third-party competitor to apps like Google Fit and Apple Health that combine data from multiple sources.

But they have competition, too. Samsung's Galaxy Ring will launch this summer and is part of Samsung's ambition to build its own walled ecosystem around smart devices and phones, all of which are bundled with Samsung's Health app.

If you currently use the Oura app but do not have Strava, you can create a free account or start a free trial.

Once both Strava and Oura are up and running, you can connect the Oura app to Strava and share your recorded media to your synced Strava activity.

Once connected, your Strava activity will appear as an activity card in the Oura app and will count toward your readiness score and activity score in the app.

From here, you can also use the workout heart rate recording feature to sync activities captured in Oura; Oura's auto-detected activities and manual entries cannot be synced to Strava.

When you are ready to share information with Strava, click on the Home tab and tap "Share" in the upper right corner. Select the data you want to share, press "Share to Strava," and you are ready to go.

This is not the only feature announced today, Strava has announced a similar feature to its meditation app Open; if you want to share classes recorded in Open with Strava as well, simply follow the instructions from Strava support to set up the integration.
