The Samsung Galaxy Ring, which debuted at MWC 2024, is coming this year. However, if an article from Korean publication The Elec is to be believed, reports of a June launch at the earliest may be off the mark.

According to the article, mass production of the wearable is expected to begin in May, with a full unveiling to follow in July. And the ring itself will not be available until August or later.

There are a few other interesting details in this report: first, it appears that Samsung will only produce 400,000 units initially, and will adjust production according to market demand (or lack thereof).

It will be sold in "eight or nine sizes" (nine sizes were shown off at MWC), and Ring will focus on "wellness" at least initially, rather than offering medical features. One "industry insider" told the site that he expects the company to "continue to develop the smart ring market by adding medical device functionality in the long run."

We have already heard that the current iteration packs an impressive 9-day battery life - a detail that puts most smartwatches to shame (but not surprising given that there is no screen to light up and power it).

Pricing details are not directly addressed in the report, but the report concludes that "design and price will be entrenched in the market." Samsung is apparently zoning in on wellness rather than wellness, so it is possible that the company will price aggressively to gain a foothold in that market.

For comparison, its main competitor in a very niche segment is Oura, whose third-generation Smart Ring costs $299.99. Others include the Ultrahuman Ring AIR for $349 and the Circular Pro 1 for $410.

There are also persistent rumors that Apple may be taking a chance in this area, but so far there is little evidence that the Apple Ring is anything more than an idea being toyed with.
