Apple Watch "Ghost Touch" Problem Finally Fixed in Latest Software Update

Apple has reportedly fixed the "ghost touch" bug that has plagued some Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra users with the latest software update, now available for download.

The ghost touch issue (where a tap or swipe registers on the device even though it is not touching the display) was first reported on older models in 2020, but reappeared on Series 9 models in early February. According to the release notes, installing WatchOS 10.4 should resolve this issue, which "causes some users to experience false touches on the display."

Last month, Cupertino issued a memo to Apple service providers authorizing them to refrain from offering replacement watches and announced that the issue is under investigation.

The memo also stated that the false touch issue could cause the screen of affected Apple Watch models to "jump erratically," unintentionally start a phone call, or prevent the user from entering the device's passcode, severely impacting the user experience of the latest models. This is having a serious impact on the user experience of the latest models. This has seriously impacted the user experience of the latest models.

It is not certain how widespread this problem actually was, but according to several Reddit threads, it seemed to occur quite frequently. Some users even speculated whether it was worth purchasing the latest model. However, some comments revealed that they had not experienced this problem at all, even when using the developer's beta software. [A note released by Apple last month recommends keeping your smartwatch up to date, so if you are experiencing these problems with your Apple watch, it is time to install WatchOS 10.4.

Along with fixes for phantom touch, the update includes a refreshed look for virtually all apps, a new Smart Stack widget, and for those using ApplePay with AssistiveTouch, passcode requirements and contact sync issue for those using AssistiveTouch, and other improvements.

If you're looking for an even bigger overhaul of the operating system, WatchOS 11 is expected to debut this September, likely to parallel the release of Apple Watch 10 and Apple iPhone 16.
