Samsung Galaxy Watch 7: Everything we know so far

For Android users, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is one of the best smartwatches available today. It is stylish, feature-packed, and the Classic Edition has a very satisfying tactile bezel for controlling apps.

Samsung introduces a new model every year, so the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 may not be available for several months. So what are we expecting from the new wearable? To find out, read on.

With the exception of the Active series, which hasn't seen a new model since 2019, Samsung has insisted on releasing all new Galaxy Watch models in August. So we fully expect Samsung's Galaxy Watch 7 to be released then, possibly in late July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Ring.

The Galaxy Watch series has seen modest price cuts over the past few years, with the original Galaxy Watch starting at $329 and the latest model at $299, but we would be surprised if there are any more price cuts.

In other words, expect prices to start at least $300 for the smallest model without cellular data, with prices rising with size and features; judging by the MSRP of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, a second generation of the Pro model could appear this year, It should sell for $449 or more.

The design of Samsung's Galaxy Watch has not changed much in the first six generations, but that may change in 2024. According to recent reports, Samsung is experimenting with a square design and "the idea is being studied intensely within the company."

Whether it is one model or all of them remains to be seen. Interestingly, according to leaker @kro-roe, there will be three Galaxy Watch 7 models this year. The Classic and Pro models will apparently be joined by a "new one". That could be the rumored Square model.

Longtime Samsung wearables fans will remember that the company has produced square-shaped smartwatches before: the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear Live, and Gear S all had square designs, but Samsung switched to a round face with the Galaxy Gear S2 switched to a round face.

Earlier this year, a reliable source, Roland Quandt, reported that the Watch 7 would feature an entirely new chipset, the Exynos W940.

This was a bit unexpected, as only one generation of the W930 was used. In fact, the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and Galaxy Watch 3 all used the Exynos 9110, while the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 used the Exynos W920.

Still, this was corroborated by another leaker: on X, leaker @TheGalox wrote, "The processor driving the Galaxy Watch 7 series, the Exynos W940, is apparently 50% more efficient and 30% faster than previous models."

The report states.

The increase in speed is of course welcome for smoother performance, but the real prize here is efficiency. That means longer battery life. This has been the Achilles' heel of recent Galaxy watches, which have fallen far short of the original's four-day stamina.

There is no word yet on a new health sensor, but what is almost certain is the introduction of sleep apnea detection. Last month, Samsung issued a press release announcing that the feature has been approved by the FDA and will be included in the Galaxy Watch in the third quarter of 2024.

Finally, there were reports in early 2023 that Samsung would switch the Galaxy Watch to MicroLED technology in the future. However, since we have heard nothing since then, we assume this is penciled in for a later generation.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch series has typically been defined by repeated generational updates.

In contrast, the rumors about the Galaxy Watch 7, if they turn out to be true, appear substantial.

With a possible new design, significantly improved performance, and a longer-lasting battery, the Galaxy Watch 7 could be a significant improvement that will tempt even the most stubborn supporters to upgrade early.
