Season 4 of "The Bear" Gets the Go-Ahead Ahead of Season 3 Premiere

In the streaming age, it is not uncommon for viewers to wait a year or more for a new season of a popular show, but FX and Hulu are looking to remedy that by filming two seasons of the Emmy-winning restaurant drama "The Bear" in a row.

Season 3 of "The Bear" was officially announced in November and is currently in production, but Variety recently reported that a fourth season of the popular Chicago-set series has also been quietly ordered and will be filmed immediately following production of the third season.

The number of episodes for the new season has not yet been determined, but the third season is scheduled to premiere in June and, like the first two seasons, will likely consist of eight to ten episodes. There is also no official word on whether "The Bear" will end with a fourth season. Despite its overwhelming popularity, that seems likely, as even the most successful streaming series rarely lasts beyond four seasons anymore. Whether or not the show continues for more seasons, FX and Hulu appear to be giving creator Christopher Stoller and the writing team a chance to plan ahead.

"The Bear" has been a huge hit so far, with both of its first two seasons ranking as one of the most streamed series in the US on various charts. At the recent Emmy Awards, which honored the 2022-23 TV season postponed by the strike, "The Bear" won 10 awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, with stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Backlash winning acting awards. White and Edebiri also won at the recent Golden Globes, while "The Bear" won for best musical comedy television series.

The second season of "The Bear" follows chef and restaurateur Carmie (White) as she completely renovates her family's sandwich store and opens a new upscale restaurant instead. As befits a blockbuster, the film featured well-known guest stars such as Bob Odenkirk, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney, and Olivia Colman, as well as Emmy nominees Jon Bernthal and Oliver Platt.

"The Bear" is one of the best shows on Hulu, with TG's Kelly Wu calling the second season "one of the best TV shows of the year." She is clearly not alone in that assessment. And now fans of "The Bear" can look forward to even more shows.
