Originally titled "The German House," and adapted from the novel of the same name by Annette Hess, "The Interpreter of Silence" follows Eva (Katharina Starck), a young Polish woman living in Frankfurt in 1963, as she accepts a job as an interpreter for a former Nazi SS officer's first Auschwitz trial. A child of the postwar era, it is here that she first begins to fully understand the true horrors of the Nazi regime and begins to reveal her personal connection to the camps. The program promises to explore a period in German history when the horrors of the past entered the cultural abyss. Younger generations like Eva's are finally beginning to understand the full extent of the evils of the recent past through first-hand accounts from older generations, both victims and perpetrators, who were eager to escape the shadow of the Nazis and rebuild their postwar lives.

The five-part miniseries is Disney Plus' third German original series, following "Sam - A Saxon" and "Farm Rebellion," and was written by author Annette Hess, who also serves as showrunner. The film is directed by Randa Chahoud, who also directed the blockbuster Deutschland 89.

"The Interpreter of Silence" was launched on November 15 on Disney Plus' Star Section in Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and the entire series is available now.

Disney Plus in the U.S. does not include a Star section, but shows broadcast in the Star section are usually distributed to Hulu in the U.S. (and vice versa), and "The Interpreter of Silence" is no exception, with the entire German drama series available.
