5 Romantic Comedies to Watch Now on Prime Video

There is something wonderful about romantic comedies. Unlike real life, things usually work out in the end for the characters. Whatever drama there is, it is generally lighthearted and the plot is far from the violence and gore found in other genres. Moreover, the predictability of the story, even in unrealistic situations, is soothing. Romantic comedies are one of the best movies to watch when you need a stress-free escape.

Prime Video has quite a few romantic comedies to choose from. It's hard to narrow down the choices to just a few, but we've identified the best Prime Video romantic comedies you can watch right now. Curl up on the couch, close the curtains, and grab your favorite beverage. Time to ignore the outside world and watch a little happy play on your favorite streaming device.

I'll start my list with a rom-com classic: Notting Hill. William Thacker, played by Hugh Grant, runs a bookstore in Notting Hill, a real-life part of London. One day he happens to meet the most popular woman in the world, the famous Anna Scott, played by Julia Roberts. As Sucker begins to fall in love, he has no idea how difficult it can be to fall in love with a celebrity.

The film is the perfect balance of romance and comedy, capturing the essence of what I love about the genre. Grant and Roberts work perfectly together and bring out the best in each other throughout the film. Director Roger Michell, on the other hand, captures the warmth of a soccer family, and they are all integral to making this film one of the best romantic comedies ever made.

Seeing the late Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You gives the film an immense bittersweetness. But the chemistry he shared with Julie Stiles makes the film worth seeing and then rewatching again and again. Ledger star Patrick Verona is recruited by his classmates to seduce Kat, played by Julia Stiles. All so his sister Bianca can finally date.

The film is a successful modern adaptation of the famous Shakespeare play "The Taming of the Shrew." Strong performances, surprisingly subtle comedy, and a somewhat convoluted but well-crafted plot make it a top-class choice in the world of romantic comedies. While it may seem like a typical teen movie at first, the film resonates with viewers more deeply than that now that the 90s are part of the distant past.

John Carney, director of the musical Once, delivers a somber but charming romantic comedy in the film Begin Again. Starring Mark Ruffalo as Dan, a down-and-out music producer who seems to have lost everything. One night, while drowning his sorrows in alcohol, he overhears Gretta, played by Keira Knightley, singing on stage. Attracted by her raw talent, he decides to collaborate with her.

You may be surprised to learn that Keira Knightley sings herself in the film. Adam Levine stars as Gretta's boyfriend, Dave. He plays a self-absorbed character, a stark contrast to Ruffalo's humble demeanor. Music, love, and the platonic devotion of all the characters.

Romantic comedies are rarely about finding love when one is older. However, the film "Elsa and Fred" breaks that stereotype. Starring two of Hollywood's leading actors, Christopher Plummer and Shirley MacLaine, the film is about two neighbors who find romance and hope in their 80s.

McClane's vivacious Shirley could not be more different from Plummer's disgruntled Fred. Age becomes an important part of the story, especially when Shirley tries to convince Fred that he still has a lot of life left in him. It may not be high on your movie list, but it is a charming portrayal of romance in old age. The film also features a number of big-name actors, including Scott Bakula as Elsa's son Gavin, James Brolin as Elsa's ex-boyfriend, George Segal as Fred's partner, and Marcia Gay Harden as Fred's daughter Lydia.

Our favorite Hollywood duo is back together again in the romantic comedy "Ticket to Paradise". Julia Roberts stars as Georgia Cotton and George Clooney as her ex-husband David Cotton. When they both hear that their daughter is about to marry someone they just met, they fall out in an attempt to stop her from making a mistake.

The two have great on-screen chemistry, beautiful locations, and perfectly timed comedy, making this one of the best romantic comedy films on Prime Video. For those familiar with the genre, the storyline may be familiar, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. In fact, part of the appeal of this type of film is its predictability. This film is a great escape from the problems currently going on in the world, and one that should not be missed.
