Buying a Samsung TV on Black Friday? 3 Things to Know

Whether you have your heart set on buying a Samsung TV during Black Friday deals or are still weighing Samsung TVs against other TV brands, it's smart to do some research before buying big bucks.

Here at Tom's Guide, we strive to bring you the best possible TV buying advice through thorough reviews and careful deal coverage. Sometimes, however, it's helpful to go to immediate sources to learn what you need to know about buying a new TV in 2023. For this article, we asked Samsung, the world's #1 TV brand according to Circana, directly about what to consider when making a decision.

"This year is all about choices," says James Fischler, head of Home Entertainment & Displays at Samsung Electronics America. 'What do we want to buy? We have that. How do we get it? How do we buy it.

We know that shoppers are looking for competitive savings, especially during Black Friday. Retailers know it, too: brands like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and direct-to-consumer brands like Samsung are discounting all kinds of TVs. When you look for one, you'll find a variety of display types and screen sizes, and it's not always obvious which one is best suited for your needs. Here are some important questions about Black Friday TV deals that you may need answered while shopping.

Customers have multiple TV technologies to choose from. And there was a time when not all brands offered the same technology, limiting the choice. Today, however, most well-known manufacturers offer a variety of panel types. Nevertheless, when it comes to Samsung, the choices are limited to either OLED or QLED; QLED (quantum dot LEDs) debuted in 2015 and are synonymous with Samsung at this point. Recently, however, Samsung has stolen some of LG and Sony's OLED thunder after announcing the company's first consumer QD-OLED TV in 2022.

"OLED is a new category for us," says Fishler. 'It's the fastest-growing OLED brand in the U.S. today.'

Earlier this year, I gave the Samsung S95C OLED TV a rare five-star rating in a review. It received high ratings across the board in benchmark tests and proved to be a premium, well-rounded TV. Currently, the 65-inch Samsung S95C TV sells for $2,397, $900 off the regular price. If you are convinced that you want an OLED TV for the most pristine TV viewing experience possible, this is a good find.

However, that doesn't mean you should rule out QLEDs. Says Fishler, "Neo QLED remains the ultimate in picture quality, and I think customers can now ask where and how they will use their TVs." If the room has some ambient light, Neo QLED is the best choice." Based on our testing, my pick in this category is the Samsung QN90C Neo QLED TV, which is spectacularly bright and great for off-angle viewing; the 65-inch Samsung QN90C Neo QLED TV sells for $1,699, more than $1,000 below the regular price It is available for $1,699, more than $1,000 less than the regular price.

Samsung.com has a built-in "help me choose" shopping tool that allows you to select TV technology based on personal criteria. For example, you can narrow down the best TVs for gaming or watching sports. If you are still unsure, we recommend going to a local retailer where trained sales staff can help you ask the right questions.

Once you have selected the right type of television, you need to choose the screen size. It is important to pay close attention to your choices, as not all televisions are available in every size option, but in general, larger TV sizes are of high interest in today's market.

"This year, 65 inches and up is the fastest growing screen size segment," says Fishler. '75" and larger and 98" are growing just as fast, with 75" and larger also growing, and 98" also growing rapidly.' "

When people come to me for TV recommendations, I always ask them what is the largest size they could possibly fit in their space. In my opinion, the bigger the screen, the more enjoyable the movie viewing experience. And I am not the only one who feels this way.

"I don't know anyone who says, 'I should have bought a smaller TV,'" Fischler says. 'But if you go bigger, make sure you don't get the lowest picture quality.' The bigger you go, the more difference there is between 4K and 8K.

Fischler also acknowledged that budgets are part of the conversion, and reiterated that Black Friday promotions and Samsung's newly launched loyalty program are helping to make the purchase of a new TV more accessible. Right now, the 85-inch Samsung QN85C Neo QLED TV is on sale for $2,299, a savings of over $1,500.

On social media, I've seen the Frame TV getting rave reviews, and some people are trying to DIY it themselves because they don't want to pay full price for a Samsung Frame TV. It may not be cheap, but there is nothing comparable on the market.

"We originally innovated from the insight that people don't want to see a black box on the wall when the screen is off," says Fischler. But the frames have exceeded our expectations." People who buy our frames are more likely than any other demographic to buy another frame within the first year."

If you were looking to buy Frames during Black Friday (whether for the first time or as a repeat customer), you are in luck. There are deals in every size that you won't find year-round. The best deal is probably the 55-inch Frame TV, which sells for $977 on Amazon, but you can also save $1,000 on the 75-inch Frame TV, which sells for $1,997.

As for why Frame is so popular, Fischler pointed to personalization, saying, "It's now permeating all consumer technology. From interchangeable bezels to exclusive art content, including a recent collaboration with The Met, Frame TV can be curated to fit your space.

Black Friday is the perfect time to buy any TV, not just Samsung TVs. Now you can get discounts and experience premium entertainment at more affordable prices than ever before. No matter what type of display or screen size you have, or even if you want a TV that doesn't look like a TV when it's off, you can find the best deals of the year through Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

"Everyone has a budget. We see a lot of people looking for value, not just price." The economy is everyone's concern, but that doesn't necessarily mean cheap."
