Columbia's Star Wars collection has finally arrived. No more waiting to wear ski suits and jackets that look like they jumped off Luke Skywalker's back. After trying it on myself a few weeks ago, the 11-item collection is now available for purchase. [The collection can be ordered on Columbia.com beginning December 1 at 12 a.m. ET, about a month after it was unveiled in an epic teaser starring Mark Hamill. Fitting, given that this installment of Columbia's ongoing partnership with Lucasfilm is being called the "Skywalker Pilot Collection."

Yes, Luke Skywalker is the muse for the items in this collection. Specifically, the snow gear he wore on the ice planet Hoth in "The Empire Strikes Back" and the orange Rebel flight suit are the stars of this product line.

This is the first time Columbia has released Star Wars-branded jackets for skiing. Additionally, the collection features zip-front ski suits and ski goggles made to look like rebel pilots' helmets.

While the collection includes some casual items, such as long-sleeved shirts with original concept art from "The Empire Strikes Back" printed on the front, it is the snow gear that truly stands out. Part of the reason for this is the use of Columbia's proprietary Omni-Heat Infinity insulation technology in the lining.

Omni-Heat Infinity's insulation is so effective that the material is being relied upon to protect the lunar module on an upcoming mission, part of NASA's Artemis lunar exploration program, which will head to the moon as early as January 12, 2024.

Wouldn't it be fitting that the Star Wars-themed gear would be equipped with technology that actually goes into space? But if that's not enough, this Star Wars collection from Columbia is full of respect for the franchise. In addition to the bomber colors, pleats on the sleeves, and orange exteriors that look like they were pulled straight from the Star Wars costume closet, each item has a hidden Easter egg.

For example, the ski jacket has a replica comms pad on the front, and the right breast pocket flap hides a blueprint of R2-D2. On the inside of the jacket is an X-wing schematic. Both schematics are marked with the exact aurebesch (the alphabet in Star Wars).

I love this utility crossbody bag. If bright orange skiwear isn't your thing, this bag is a bit more understated. The collection's T-shirt sets are also more modest and priced more modestly than the products made for skiers.
