Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 - Boss Fights, Legos, and Everything Else New

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 - Boss Fights, Legos, and Everything Else New

With the release of the highly anticipated new season, the destruction of the Chapter 4 island this weekend, and the Big Bang Live event featuring a virtual concert by Eminem, "Fortnite" has been on a hell of a roll lately.

As part of the event, Epic announced three new games coming to the Fortnite experience: a LEGO-themed survival/craft adventure, Rocket Racing, developed by the studio behind Rocket League, and Rock Band creator Harmonix, and Fortnite Festival, a music game that allows players to play solo or with friends in a band.

And it all leads to Epic's release this week of Season 1 of Chapter 5 of "Fortnite. The new season, dubbed "Underground," will feature redesigned in-game locations and maps, five new powerful boss characters, and many other new features.

A trailer for the new season, featuring Family Guy's Peter Griffin and Metal Gear's Snake, can be checked out below.

Fortnite's servers were down for several hours late Saturday night and Sunday morning as Epic pushed the update, but Chapter 5 Season 1 is now up and running. You should be able to install it now (though there may be a long queue, as other players are rushing to get the update).

The Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 update brings to the game a new railroad with marinas, mansions, new grasslands and snow areas, as well as a train that you can hop on to move around the map.

Five boss characters are also scattered across the island. As a member of the Underground, your mission is to take down the Society, a mysterious organization that has been pulling strings behind the scenes to take Peery away.

Defeat one of the Society bosses, Family Guy Peter Griffin, to obtain a medallion that unlocks the ability to regenerate shields over time, a very useful feature. The downside, however, is that the medallion acts as a beacon to let other players know your location on the map. The effect also stacks: "The more medallions you have, the more precise the radius of your exact location," Epic explains in a press release.

Other additions include a new "car" section in the player's locker that can be customized with bodywork, decals, wheels, etc.; a weapon called the Ballistic Shield that "allows you to fire a pistol and protect yourself with a shield at the same time"; a shield recovery and recovery while moving and recovering, a new SUV vehicle, and the ability to modify weapons in certain areas of the island. As for vehicle customization, certain cosmetics from "Rocket League" will also be carried over for those who have played both games.

Looking ahead, Epic announced the "Lego Fortnite" experience, a collaboration between Epic and Lego that will be available in-game starting December 7. Details are scarce at this time, but it is described as "an all-new survival craft adventure." A teaser trailer can be found here.
