Forget the Samsung Galaxy S24 - Galaxy S25 Signs of Major Upgrade

The release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 is imminent, but it seems that leakers have already started setting their sights on the S25 Smartphone news tipster @Tech-Reeves says the upcoming S25 and S25+ will not use the Isocell GN3 camera sensor, moving instead to a Sony model

The exact model used is not indicated, but it has been suggested that it could be a custom model called the IMX890 This sensor is 1/15" in size and has a resolution of 50 megapixels However, the purported S25 Ultra may continue to use Samsung's in-house ISOCELL sensor This information should be taken with some (well, a lot of) skepticism, as the S25 is likely more than a year away

There is some concern that Samsung's recent attempts to use AI labels may be due to the relatively minor hardware upgrade of the S24 If this information is correct, the Samsung Galaxy's hardware will be upgraded considerably However, some of the improvements rumored to be coming to the S24 would also be welcome

A good start would be a better battery and faster wireless charging Currently, there is no indication that the S24's battery life will improve, but this is an area where Samsung is known to improve For example, the Galaxy S23 Ultra still holds first place in its own Best Battery Life test This test currently consists primarily of phones that last longer than 12 hours The standard S23 recorded a reasonable 10 hours and 27 minutes, but fell short of the iPhone 15, which surpassed the 11-hour mark

This is not to say that the AI improvements proposed by the Samsung Galaxy S24 are not impressive Known as generative AI, these upgrades herald multiple features aimed at making users' lives easier For example, the AI translation feature will be able to translate other languages into both speech and text

All of this comes from what the South Korean tech giant is calling "Samsung Gauss" This is the company's proprietary generative AI model that runs on the device The result is a host of new features that help improve the user experience, such as document summarization and e-mail composition

There are also indications that the AI will be able to create and edit images and upgrade low-resolution images

There are also indications that Samsung may hide some of these features behind a paywall This seems unlikely for several reasons, especially right out of the box The main reason would be that Apple is currently in the same AI market Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stated that the company plans to integrate generative AI into its product line next year

However, if this rumor turns out to be true, there could be more focus on cloud-based AI capabilities This could potentially speed up the S24 as some of the AI processing tasks are offloaded However, it has not yet been confirmed if this is the case

The S25 is still a long way off, but development of future smartphones began long before the preceding models Samsung will likely track the S24's successes and make modifications to the S25 when necessary Hopefully, the integration of new sensors is only the beginning of hardware improvements
