Do you have a Sony TV released in 2012-2013, the EX, W, or HX series, both the X9005 and S995, and some additional Blu-ray players, which may no longer have access to Netflix?

Sony's official support page claims that the change is "due to technical limitations" and lists a set of models that will be affected at the end of February 2024. This list includes approximately 34 TVs and an additional 33 Blu-ray players that will be affected.

It is unclear at this time whether the problem is on Netflix's end, and alternative TV companies will eventually lose access to the app. Sony's support page directs customers to Netflix's help center.

This is not surprising, as Netflix is not the most reliable application when it comes to specific OS support, as with many issues with Android 11 at launch. in 2019, multiple Vizio, Samsung, and Sony TVs, as well as 2012 pre-2012 Roku devices experienced a major Netflix app offload, with access to them similarly being suspended due to technical limitations.

Samsung Blu-ray players and TVs from Hitachi, Panasonic, and Sony lost access to the Netflix app this October. In the same purge, both PlayStation TV and PlayStation Vita devices also lost access.

Support for the Netflix app on TVs may be lost, but affected TV users can still use another device via HDMI or USB, like the Roku Streaming Stick, one of the best streaming devices of the year, to Netflix access.
