Bose recalls Nearly 1 million subwoofers over Fire Hazards — Find out if you're affected

Bose is making headlines this week with the recall of nearly one million of its Acoustimass, Lifestyle, and Companion bass modules.

All of the subwoofers in these models were manufactured before 2006 and contain electrical components that are a fire hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

To remedy this situation, Bose will arrange for free repair of the base module or a 40% discount on replacement products, including the Bose Smart Soundbar 900.

A full list of affected models and affected serial numbers is below:

If your speaker system is on the list, the first thing to do is unplug it. Digital Trends reports only 21 cases worldwide, but it's a good place to start.

Once unplugged, you should head to the Bose recall website to begin the return process. (You can find this information on a sticker on the back of the subwoofer.)

If your number doesn't come up in a search or you have trouble finding the 17-digit serial number, you can call Bose directly.

The return process is always a hassle, but the 40% discount on new Bose products is a nice bonus.
