LG's 2020 OLED TVs are finally getting the upgrade they Deserve

LG will roll out an update to its 2020 model year TVs, including the LG CX OLED, LG GX OLED, and LG BX OLED, that will upgrade the WebOS Smart TV platform to a new version with the same aesthetic as the 2023 models currently being rolled out.

This change will replace the UI with a more modern, full-screen UI that displays recommended content, rather than the previous version with icons along the bottom of the screen.

The upgrade to a more modern look should tempt users to make the switch, but if they want to keep the old software, they can arrange it from the settings where LG has placed a new option called "home screen styles."

To switch back and forth between styles after updating software, go to Settings > General > Home Settings > Home Screen Styles.

While being able to switch between the two styles of home screen is a nice feature, it does not make up for the fact that LG does not offer the latest version of WebOS on older TVs. to use WebOS, you will need a newer 2023 release like the LG C3 OLED or LG G3 OLED TVs will need to be purchased.

So what makes the latest version of WebOS better than the older versions? Not only can each user set up their own profile, but each of those profiles can get unique recommendations based on the type of content they watch.

Another great feature that only 2023 LG TVs will have is the ability to customize image settings using a series of images. Based on your preferences and the images you select, the TV can make every video you watch brighter, darker, more sophisticated, more saturated, less saturated, higher or lower contrast.

Finally, OLED TVs in 2023 will be Matter-ready. This may not be a huge perk unless you are a daily user of smart home devices, but it is a nice feature for those who do.

Now that the latest LG 2023 TV is available, having the latest smart TV platform may be a good reason to upgrade if better picture performance didn't initially entice you.
