GTA6 publisher suggests p55Pro is on the way — here's what we know

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick indicated that the "GTA 6" publisher expects to see a PS5 Pro console in the future, but does not believe the hardware will dramatically change the console landscape.

In a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Strauss said that the PS5 Pro will "probably" be released during the current console generation. However, he also stated that the launch of a more powerful PS5 model "would not have much impact on business."

These words are interesting for several reasons. First, Take-Two Interactive is an important partner for Sony, and there is no doubt that both companies are aware of each other's internal developments. And second, Strauss' assertion that the PS5 Pro will not have a significant impact on the gaming market, much like the difference between the PS4 and PS4 Pro, is an intermittent refresh for the mid-gen generation.

Of course, these words from Strauss do not directly support the existence of the PS5 Pro. But if the industry giant believes that its launch is likely, there is almost certainly a good reason. And these comments can be taken as a positive sign that the console really does exist in some form.

In the same interview, any discussion of "GTA 6" was quickly kicked to the curb by the CEO. We're not talking about a specific title," Strauss replied when asked about the next installment in the popular, best-selling open-world crime series. However, Take-Two's latest financial reports and projections may indicate that "GTA 6" will be released in late 2024.

Sony has yet to officially confirm the existence of the PS5 Pro, but there are numerous online rumors suggesting a possible release date and hardware improvements.

Legendary PlayStation console designer Mark Cerny was involved in its creation, suggesting that the machine will have a strong focus on ray-tracing technology and target 8K resolution.

It is also said to be released in 2024, with one leaker claiming that it is "100% in development" and that a development kit could ship this year. Another rumor claims that the PS5 Pro will likely share a release date with the Nintendo Switch 2.

Assuming the PS5 Pro is in active development, a 2024 release date seems quite likely. This is the same as the launch interval between PS4 (2013) and PS4 Pro (2016). However, some have questioned the need for a PS5 Pro, especially since developers have yet to fully utilize the existing PS5 hardware.

It has also been suggested that the PS5 Pro is not the only new hardware Sony is planning; Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson has repeatedly claimed that a redesigned version of the current PS5 will be available and will include a removable disk drive. The source also suggests that Sony is currently working on a new handheld device codenamed "Q Lite," but that it will be centered around the PS5's remote play capabilities, not the PlayStation Vita 2.
