The PS5 is entering its third generation this year, and as is customary, there is already much talk about both its successor and a mid-generation refresh model, colloquially known as the PS5 Pro Many expect the PS5 Pro to arrive at some point in 2023 However, one well-informed source believes that PlayStation fans may get their hands on new gaming hardware before the PS5 Pro arrives
Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming (opens in new tab) revealed this fact during his latest live stream (opens in new tab) During the stream, he stated, "There is one more Sony hardware that will be released before the ProDespite the April 1 date, we clarified on Twitter that this is not an April Fool's Day prank
As for what we can expect from the announcement, there is little to nothing
Indeed, given that the PS5 Pro (itself not yet officially confirmed to exist) is due this year, this latest hardware must already be in the late stages of development With the DualSense Edge and PSVR2 already out this year, 2023 is shaping up to be an incredibly busy year for Sony's gaming division
Henderson's "not yet reported" statement appears to deny the rumored PS5 with a removable disk drive, so perhaps it is completely out of the blue
Early speculation and excitement on social media is that a new PSP or PS Vita may be in the works Whatever the success of the Nintendo Switch, Sony might be wise to bring a slightly more powerful handheld console to market
The PS Vita, released in 2012, was Sony's last serious attempt at a handheld console, and while it has many fans, it wasn't enough to keep it from being discontinued in 2019
In the face of the cheaper Nintendo DS, the PSP and PS Vita struggled, despite boasting better performance But now, given the Switch's success at the $299 price point, the Vita's $249 launch price seems a bit more reasonable
While this is all speculation at this point, Tom's Guide will, of course, keep you posted on any news as it comes in
