MacBook Air M2 Release Date Flipped – Here's when you can pre-order

The MacBook Air M2 is now just two weeks away

Retailers interviewed by MacRumors (opens in new tab) claim that the MacBook Air M2 will be available on July 15, with pre-orders starting on July 8 (next Friday) This is consistent with Apple's promise at WWDC 2022 that the new Air would be available in July, and also with the company's pattern of separating pre-orders and regular sales of its latest products on two consecutive Fridays

The MacBook Air M2 is considerably more expensive than the previous MacBook Air M1 However, the addition of the Apple M2 chip, a new lighter design with a larger notched display, better speakers, and a higher-resolution webcam are all upgrades that make the expense worthwhile If you don't mind getting the latest hardware, the MacBook Air M1 is still priced at $1,000 for now

Apple's other new laptop, the MacBook Pro M2, is already available this month However, this machine has been getting some bad press lately, as the base model failed to outperform the old MacBook Pro M1 in certain benchmarks due to slow SSD transfer speeds

We are curious to see if the MacBook Air M2 suffers from the same performance issues as the MacBook Pro M2 with its default specifications; the higher spec MacBook Pro models do not seem to have this problem, and if so, we would be interested to know if the Air's additional storage or RAM for the Air

Rumor has it that the MacBook Air M2 may not remain Apple's newest lightweight laptop We have heard rumors about a MacBook Air 15-inch model that may appear next spring This would bring the Air series beyond 13 inches for the first time and might offer the rumored Apple M2 Pro chip along with the regular M2 silicon

In the meantime, check out our MacBook Air M2 hands-on for our first impressions of this new MacBook design, and our guide on how to reserve a MacBook Air M2 if you want to know where to get the best deal
