Diablo II Remaster came to PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch and PC and announced

At BlizzCon 2021, aka BlizzConline, publisher Activision Blizzard announced Diablo II: Resurrected, a remaster of the beloved action role-playing hack-and-slash game.

The game has been rumored for some time, but with this announcement Blizzard promises that the game is the "definitive remaster." The game will also include the Lord of Destruction expansion; Diablo II: Resurrected will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021. Cross-play will also be implemented on all platforms.

Here is what we know about Diablo II: Resurrected.

Diablo II was originally released on PC in 2000; 20 years ago, 3D graphics were still out of reach for most PC gamers, so the game used 2D sprites. Resurrection will feature full 3D models, new animation, and up to 4K resolution.

The 27-minute cinematic has also been rebuilt "from the ground up." The soundtrack is Dolby 7.1 remastered.

It has long been known that the original source files for "Diablo II" were lost, causing "irreparable and fatal damage." For the remaster, Blizzard chose to either find backup files on old floppy disks or rebuild the game from scratch.

The game was remastered by Vicarious Visions, the same development team responsible for last year's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.

Diablo II: Resurrected also features a mode similar to the one found in Halo Anniversary, where you can switch between modern and retro graphics at the press of a button Vicarious Visions has done this by remastering the original Diablo II and will be a faithful recreation of the original.

"Diablo II: Resurrected" is priced at $39.99 and is already available for pre-order at Blizzard's online store.

An official release date has not yet been set, but it will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2021. A technical alpha test will also be conducted for PC players. To register to participate, click here.
