Cyberpunk 2077 Disaster just Got Worse - Delayed patch of Ransomware Attacks

The developers of Cyberpunk 2077 have announced that the game's second major patch has been delayed due to a ransomware attack that occurred earlier this month

CD Projekt RED has previously shared details of a cyber attack that compromised the company's internal systems after "unidentified actors gained unauthorized access to the network" and collected restricted data

This forced the developers to delay the Cyberpunk Patch 12 and they are now "aiming for a late March release"

CD Projekt RED also revealed that the game's second major patch will be more in-depth than any update the company has released in the past

"We are working on a number of overall quality improvements and fixes, and there is still work to be done to ensure this," the statement continued

The cyber attackers allegedly stole a piece of source code for a different game, which was then auctioned off Later, CD Projekt RED shared a message from the hacker via Twitter, indicating that the source code for an unreleased version of The Witcher 3 had been leaked

Fortunately, the company was able to restore the affected systems and secure its IT infrastructure as backups remained intact; CDPR said it is taking all necessary steps to address the consequences of the ransomware attack

Cyberpunk 21 was originally scheduled to be released this month (February 2021) after a promise to fix the bugs that compromised the game's launch in December 2020 Shortly after the long-awaited release, CD Projekt RED was inundated with complaints from its trusted users about the "disaster" gameplay experience

The first major patch (version 11) arrived last month as scheduled and included performance and stability-related bug fixes for a significant number of quests across all platforms Ironically, the first patch later introduced another game-breaking bug that prevented users from completing one of the game's main quests This bug was later fixed by the developers, but one wonders if the upcoming patch will follow the same path

As confirmed by CD Projekt RED, we now expect the second major patch (version 12) to arrive in late March The developer previously described the next patch as "bigger and more important" For now, we can only hope that the company will meet the deadline it has set and actually fix the game
