Game cheats are about to get an unwelcome companion in PS5. Platform security company Irdeto has announced that its Denuvo Anti-Cheat technology will join the PS5 Tools and Middleware program. [Denuvo is currently available on PC, Android, and iOS; according to Irdeto, the company has covered more than 2 billion unique game installations and secured more than 1,000 games.

"Cheating ruins video games for honest players," said Reinhard Braukovich, managing director of Denuvo, in a press release announcing the move to PS5. 'This will lead to lower engagement, lower game traffic and shrinking revenues for game publishers. We are truly proud to help the world's most talented developers deliver a richer experience for gamers on PlayStation 5."

Denuvo's pitch essentially argues that if a game has a rocky launch due to cheaters, it could mean a significant revenue loss for publishers and developers. According to the release, Denuvo's goal is to "protect developers' investments, with approximately 70% of revenue coming in the first two weeks after a game's launch."

Also, according to Irdeto, Denuvo is currently being implemented in a number of PS5 launch titles, though the company did not specify which ones.

It should also be noted that cheating on consoles is much rarer than on PCs. Still, some PS5 gamers have concerns.

Surprisingly, the dialogue on Twitter seems somewhat cool. Many gamers noted that Denuvo was on PS4 and that the game played fine. Remember, this is Denuvo's Anti-Cheat, not the heavy Anti-Tamper software used to prevent piracy.

Denuvo Anti-Cheat is already on a handful of PS5 launch titles, but no one has noticed. In the future, Denuvo will hardly ever interfere with game performance.
