"Battlefield 6" is slated for release later this year, but details on the title have yet to be revealed.

EA is having DICE produce the next installment in the Battlefield series, following "Battlefield 5" in 2018. The game was not exactly a success, and an attempt to introduce a battle royale mode was unsuccessful. We don't know what EA has in store for us this time around, or even if the next installment will be titled "Battlefield 6," but we do know when the first unveiling will be.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson had previously teased a spring reveal ahead of the 2021 holiday launch window, but GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb clearly stated May, and it looks like he's right.

Asked about a "Battlefield 6" announcement on his podcast, Grubb replied, "May," before adding, "It's still in flux. We haven't announced anything publicly yet. But my understanding is that we're probably looking at May," he added. While May is not 100% certain, since he is confident that the first look will take place before the June window for E3, it seems very likely.

The time period in which "Battlefield 6" will be set is also a mystery at this point, but Grubb mentioned this point on ResetEra (via TheGamer). Rather than being set against the backdrop of another historical world war, it appears to be a return to a more modern era.

Tom Henderson, a well-known Call of Duty leaker, shared this information on Twitter, and although the tweet has since been deleted, Grubb spoke out about the speculation in a ResetEra thread, confirming that the game is set in modern times.

Other details are unknown, but we do know that the game will take full advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware; there should be a PS4 version and an Xbox One version.
