Fans of the Devil's Soul rejoice - Killer PS5 game has been adapted into a movie

Sony is reportedly working on "Demon's Souls," a film based on From Software's cult classic video game, the spiritual successor to the 2009 PS3 release of "Demon's Souls," or "Dark SOULS" series, not to be confused with the "Dark Souls" series.

The report comes from Giant Freakin Robot, citing "reliable inside sources." Details are scarce, and it is not clear if the game will follow the same plot as the video game; in Demon's Souls, players are tasked with defeating the Old One, an ancient demon awakened from sleep by King Allant of Boletaria. This is a rather vague premise, and given that the player avatar functions as a vessel rather than a fully fleshed-out character, there are numerous possibilities for film adaptation.

Sony owns the Demon's Souls IP and the recent Bloodborne. This iconic title was recently remade for the PS5, and now Sony appears to be putting the IP to good use. While the conversion of video games to television and film has historically been abysmal, that is beginning to change.

Video games have been getting a lot of attention in film and television over the past few years; Netflix's The Witcher series is so popular that a Season 2 of The Witcher is in the works; HBO has been busy making The Last of Us into a TV show; Amazon Prime's Fallout series is also on the horizon. And let's not forget Cyberpunk: Edge Runners, an anime based on CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077.

Sony's take on "Demon's Souls" will be interesting, as the IP gives the company considerable latitude in re-creating it through the medium of film. Of course, none of this is certain, and the only information we have is that a "Demon's Souls" movie will be released.

As for the cast and plot, who knows how Sony will handle it. Perhaps a series would have been a better choice, given how successful such a film adaptation format has been, but Sony may still surprise us.
