The Harry Potter RPG "Hogwarts Legacy" takes place in the former Hogwarts. As a new student, you will be faced with many decisions as you make your own legacy at the school of "magic and wizardry."

The game takes place so far back in time that you may not see many familiar faces. But you won't need to, because you'll be going to the Sorting Hat, taking classes, and so much more. It seems there are even bad guys wearing masks. Unfortunately, the game does not have the best reputation right now, as a new controversy has surfaced regarding the man behind the title.

Here's everything we know about the Harry Potter RPG, including release dates and trailers.

It turns out that we Muggles will have to wait a little longer for Hogwarts Legacy to begin. As shared by the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account, the game will be released in 2022.

This is industry-speak for "we need to make sure it doesn't become a buggy mess like what happened with Cyberpunk 2077, where the joke is bigger about how unstable it is than the game itself."

Originally, as we learned from the first trailer at Sony's PS5 event, and confirming what Bloomberg had already reported, "Hogwarts Legacy" was scheduled for release in 2021 (Bloomberg specified late 2021). The game was supposed to be shown to the public at E3 in the summer of 2020, but that event was canceled.

In that Bloomberg article, Jason Schreier confirmed the existence of a Harry Potter RPG to two people currently working on the game - Avalanche Software, a studio under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and is being developed by Avalanche Software, a studio under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The Hogwarts Legacy trailer, which does not confirm whether the game is a PS5 exclusive or not, showcases students engaging with every magical animal they can point their wands at, taking classes, casting spells, and engaging in their own drama with other students. The masked students appear to be misbehaving, or maybe they are in a nasty clique.

While we didn't see any gameplay today, we do have some details from the original Harry Potter game rumors. These date back to 2018 and may have changed, as a video of a very early version of the game (which has since been taken down) was posted on Reddit; according to Variety, the video included character creation scenes and a young wizard exploring the Great Hall of Hogwarts The visuals included.

There were also standard RPG elements, such as making potions and casting spells. Players could also choose their alignment (good or evil), which affected their abilities and the list of available spells.

At the time the video was leaked to the Internet, BBC writer Lizo Mzimba said that the game was to be called "Harry Potter" Magic Awakened and that "Harry Potter" Magic Forever was also being considered: Harry Potter. Magic Forever" was also considered.

A Bloomberg report claimed that Harry Potter games are being developed for multiple platforms, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The trouble with Hogwarts Legacy began when J.K. Rowling had to explain that she was not involved in the game's production (more on that later), which made things even worse for fans looking forward to the game. According to a thread posted on Twitter by journalist Liam Robinson, the lead designer of The Hogwarts Legacy used to run a YouTube channel dedicated to far-right content. One video is titled "In Praise of Cultural Appropriation," while another focuses on "Social Justice Ten Commandments."

According to a Bloomberg report confirming the presence of the Harry Potter RPG, there is discomfort within the studio over the stance Potter author J.K. Rowling takes in public. The writer has come under fire for many online comments about transgender men and women, including last December when she spoke out in support of Maya Forster, a tax specialist who was fired for her transphobic expression.

Even if she has not seen it with her own eyes on Twitter, Rowling's comments have outraged many in the transgender community. These remarks have led Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to publicly explain their disagreements with the author.

According to Schreier, "The situation made several members of the team uncomfortable and sparked private discussions among staff members in the pandemic water cooler of Slack, a workplace communication app."

This, the article notes, could water down the potential success of the game, with fans saying they no longer support Harry Potter or anything Rowling-related. The Bloomberg article noted that Rowling has "little direct involvement" in the game.

More recently, an olive branch was leaked. Bloomberg reports that gamers will be able to adjust their character's body shape and voice, making the game more trans-inclusive; NBC News reports that some transgender gamers believe they can finally make amends with this Some are even thinking that they have made amends.
