It appears that Samsung may be preparing another pair of true wireless earbuds, as a reference to the Galaxy Buds 2 was found in the latest Samsung Wearables APK
Android Police revealed that the Galaxy Buds 2 are earbuds codenamed "Berry" This pair of earbuds appears to be a direct successor to the original Samsung Galaxy Buds, rather than last year's Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro And it suggests that Samsung is trying to launch a more affordable competitor to Apple's AirPods 3
Indeed, the Galaxy Buds are currently priced as low as $80, as opposed to the $199 Galaxy Buds Pro In exchange for the lower price, the Galaxy Buds 2 will lack some of the latter's more advanced features, such as active noise cancellation and Samsung 360 audio However, the existing Galaxy Buds feature set is also likely to be improved, possibly with longer battery life and improved water resistance
It appears that the Galaxy Buds 2 already includes multipoint technology, or the ability to connect to multiple devices at once The wearable APK includes the phrase "supportMultiConnection="true" This could be a normal multipoint, or it could be a sign that the Galaxy Buds 2 will support the same automatic device switching as the Galaxy Buds Pro
Of course, nothing is confirmed, and these few lines of code are the only indication so far that Samsung is working on the Galaxy Buds 2 It may be a very early prototype, or it may have been tried and discarded and the Wearable APK reference simply left out
Still, an inexpensive pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds would make sense; the Galaxy Buds Pro is firmly on the list of best wireless earbuds, but the Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Live set the price Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Live have set, following the trend of increasing prices
A simpler, more affordable Bud set could help attract more budget-minded buyers in Samsung's ecosystem as well as undercut the AirPods 3, which are expected to be more expensive than the current Apple AirPods in exchange for upgraded features It may help
