Mario Kart 9 could Arrive this Year — Here's why

"Mario Kart 9" may be released on Nintendo Switch by the end of 2021.

The rumor comes from a 4Chan user (via Gaming Intel), who in January posted a massive list of titles that are supposed to be released this year among "many anniversaries." He stated that the game could be released anytime between now and "early 2022," and Mario Kart 9 was mentioned, although no release date was listed.

Since it was posted, the article has been proven correct on many fronts. We saw Nintendo announce Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes, and confirmed Mario Golf: Super Rush, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, and Ninja Gaiden Master Collection at the February Direct.

Leakers also sniffed out a new NES Detective Club remake. If this list is accurate, it's a new Kirby game, Metroid Prime: Trilogy, Breath of the Wild 2, and Mario Kart 9.

Nintendo released "Mario Kart 8" for the Wii U in 2014 and a revamped "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. If the huge gap between the last game and the next wasn't enough, this year marks the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. What better way to celebrate than with a lineup of new Mario titles?

The 4Chan contributor does say that some titles will be in the 2022 bracket, but with all of that in mind, it makes sense that Mario Kart 9 will debut this year on the Nintendo Switch. It could also be released on both consoles once the Nintendo Switch Pro arrives later this year. Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, so we'll remain skeptical until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
