Xbox Series X upgrade just made a quick restart better

The Quick Resume feature on the Xbox Series X (and Xbox Series S) has been overhauled. This update is available for members of the Xbox Insider Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead groups.

The new update will allow you to see if the title you are currently playing supports quick resume. In addition, a new section has been added to the group, showing everything currently saved to Quick Resume. This will make it easier to manage your active games and apps. You can also delete Quick Resume saves to free up space, or delete games that you don't want to recall being relegated to the pile of shame.

Eden Marie, Xbox's technical lead, shared screenshots of the updated UI on Twitter. He also released news that Groups can be reordered with just a few taps of a button. Of course, the new feature is limited to Xbox Insiders for now, but expect it to be rolled out widely in the near future.

Another aspect of the update is audio pass-through support. Even the most dedicated audiophile setups are hampered by Microsoft consoles. Even with the best soundbar, the audio is ultimately processed by the Xbox Series X|S before being output from the speakers. A new audio option eliminates this problem; if you are a participant in the Insider program and would like to try this, go to the console Settings > Audio > Advanced > Allow Pass-Through.

There are also fixes for updates that stop at "Finishing things up" in the queue and "various updates to properly reflect local language throughout the console."

If you want to try out the upcoming Xbox updates before they become available to the public, you can sign up for the Xbox Insider program. See Microsoft's FAQ for more information.
