Sony's WH-1000XM4, one of the best noise-canceling headphones available, is getting an eye-catching new color option with the upcoming Silent White Edition.

In addition to the existing black and silver (rather than the goldish beige), the Silent White Edition will be available in May to celebrate Sony's 75th anniversary, given that the WH-1000XM4 tops our overall best headphones rankings, There will be little need for that.

But if you're thinking about getting the WH-1000XM4 in Silent White, don't dawdle. This is a limited edition color that will only be available from May through August.

According to Sony's announcement, "The new white color was developed to embody the concept of silence and comfort. Presumably this refers to the WH-1000XM4's active noise cancellation (ANC) and not the ability to blast loud music into your ears.

The WH-1000XM4's ANC does not muffle sound as effectively as the Bose 700's ANC. However, the longer battery life, richer sound quality, and more affordable price make the Sony can set slightly better as an overall package. The new Silent White option may be another advantage in the eyes of those who want to avoid the usual black or silver and make their headphones look a little lighter and brighter.

The Silent White models have a pearlescent finish, which Sony says makes them more stain-resistant than the original color. All accessories, including the carrying case, detachable 3.5mm cable, and charging cable, will also be white.

We were slightly hoping that the company's next headphone announcement would be regarding the rumored Sony WF-1000XM4 wireless earphones, but for now we'll settle for an update to the WH-1000XM4.
