OnePlus is fixing the worst things about OnePlus watches

After years of speculation and rumors, OnePlus has finally released its first smartwatch, the aptly named OnePlus Watch. We at Tom's Guide liked the wearable device very much in our review of the OnePlus Watch, but other media outlets were less than impressed.

While no product is perfect, OnePlus has already begun to address some of the watch's shortcomings. Future updates will add an always-on display option and a 12-hour watch face.

The lack of an always-on display is particularly annoying since it should not be necessary to flick your wrist up to check the time.

OnePlus announced the intent of the update in a community post on the official forum. While the always-on display and 12-hour watch face will not yet be offered, the OnePlus Watch will receive several bug and stability fixes, GPS and heart rate monitoring improvements, and a few other things in the coming days.

The company did not say when the Watch will get an always-on display and 12-hour watch face, only that they will be available in a future OTA update. These upcoming updates will also enable 110 workout modes, an AI watchface, and add German, Italian, Spanish, and Polish language support.

In her review of the OnePlus Watch, staff writer Kate Kozuch said she liked the responsiveness and ease of use of RTOS (which the OnePlus Watch uses instead of Wear OS). She was also impressed with the battery life, easily hitting the two weeks promised by OnePlus.

However, the lack of iPhone support and key features are holding the OnePlus Watch back. Nevertheless, it is clear that the company plans to address some of these weaknesses in future updates.

Despite these shortcomings, the OnePlus Watch is a worthy first attempt. It is sleek, user-friendly, and its battery life trumps those of the Wear OS, Tizen, and watchOS families.

Our experience with OnePlus phones is that Chinese companies usually listen properly to community and journalistic feedback. We hope that continues for the life of the OnePlus Watch.
