Apple's new AirTag tracker can help you keep track of the whereabouts of keys, wallets, and other valuables that often go missing. And AirTag is so useful that our AirTag review was quite favorable about its potential; AirTag does not allow for sharing the location of items within a family through family sharing.

This seems to be Apple's job for Family Sharing. This feature allows you and up to five other family members to access Apple services. This can be mixed with platforms such as Apple TV Plus, Apple Music, and Apple News Plus. You can also share your iTunes and App Store purchases across accounts so you don't have to buy the same product over and over again. Unfortunately, however, AirTags does not seem to share the same functionality.

Members of family sharing groups can use the "Find My" app to locate other people's iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices. Curiously, Apple has not included AirTags in this feature. As a result, disappointed users have left complaints about the lack of AirTag functionality all over the Internet.

Currently, the only thing users can turn on via iCloud Family Sharing is an "AirTag Detection" alert to prevent inadvertent tracking if someone slips an AirTag into someone else's backpack or pocket.

It is unclear whether Apple plans to introduce this type of feature in the future; it seems like a natural extension of AirTag, but privacy concerns about the Key Finder may make Apple hesitant.

For what it's worth, this is an issue that other key finders are aware of: Tile's multi-key trackers, represented by Tile Pro and Tile Mate, allow you to share your Tile with one other address by default; the Chipolo One tracker also has a family sharing feature.

Until Apple finds the best way to do this, Air Tags will remain a one-person-per-tag item. Group sharing may take place at a later date, unless Apple is moved by a massive backlash.
