Apple's iOS 145 may have only just arrived, but the third beta of iOS 146 is already available for developers and promises a series of powerful features
9to5Mac examined the beta and noted that while some changes are only cosmetic, other notable changes coming in the final version of what will likely be the last major iPhone and iPad update before iOS 15
The most interesting change is found in the Find app Lost mode now supports the use of a contact's email address instead of a phone number to help reunite you with misplaced belongings
The email can be set to an Apple ID or changed to a different address, but either way it is a more convenient way to leave a message that you have found someone's things
After 9to5Mac put the AirTag tracker in lost mode, the user message did not show the email address entered by the writer Once completed, this feature will likely be used a lot in conjunction with the recently released AirTags
The new App Store splash screen covering Apple's new App Tracking Transparency feature This was introduced in iOS 145 and allows users to block apps from accessing their data for advertising purposes Although it hasn't been out for very long, it already seems to be well received by users and rather unpopular with app developers who rely on ads to fund their development
The Apple Podcasts splash screen also showcases the new premium podcast subscription and recommendation channel features discussed at Apple's Spring Loaded event There is no indication yet that these features have made it into the app, but perhaps they will appear in a later beta version once this feature is released this month
If you missed it, there have been some changes from previous beta versions of iOS 146 If you are testing the beta, you can now choose to update to the latest version or continue trying the older version; a new Hi-Res Audio option for Apple Music was also discovered (via Macworld)
These changes are not as significant as those introduced in iOS 145, but that is probably because iOS 15 is not that far away Apple announces a new OS every year at WWDC, and WWDC 2021 has been announced for June 7-11 Rumors about new features in iOS 15 are so far There are claims of a redesigned design, system notifications, widgets, and privacy changes
