The more developers become familiar with Microsoft's new game console, the more power they can draw from the Xbox Series X.

According to Tor Frick, creative director of the upcoming cyberpunk game "The Ascent," developers will need time to become familiar with the Xbox Series X hardware. When they do, however, we can expect games from smaller developers to potentially compete with games from triple-A game makers.

"I think it will be some time before it becomes clear how big a change this is," Flick told GamingBolt. It will be some time before the development community has the potential to fully embrace the new baseline of hardware."

Notably, Flick turned to the Xbox Series X, and indeed the Xbox Series S's high-speed solid-state drives, as a means for developers to get the best out of Microsoft's latest game console.

"Faster load times allow developers to create more seamless, richer, more detailed, and more diverse experiences," Flick explained. It will help smaller developers bridge the gap between low-budget titles and what has traditionally been expected from AAA studios." I think we're going to see an even greater variety of games being created by studios of all sizes.

This may seem rather obvious to those who have been playing console games for years: think about how good a game like "The Last of Us Part II" in 2020, at the end of the PS4's lifecycle, looked on seven-year-old hardware! I hope you're right. However, Flick's argument that smaller developers will benefit is promising, since familiarity with such hardware tends to be the domain of first-party and AAA developers.

Furthermore, six months after the Xbox Series X was launched, there have not been many "Halo" games, including "Halo Infinite," to showcase what the console can do. Under normal circumstances, there would be more flagship games that would spearhead the new generation of consoles.

However, we do know that there will be some exclusive Xbox Series X games, which should help bolster the list of best Xbox Series X games. And as developers become more and more familiar with the new Xbox hardware, we can expect to see more impressive titles from game makers large and small.

Similarly, the PS5 is only six months away from launch. With Sony's focus on games exclusively for the PS5, several games have already appeared that showcase the PS5's power and capabilities to the fullest, most recently "Returnal."

Although in virtual form, E3 2021 is just around the corner, and we can expect to see a number of Xbox Series X games that employ the capabilities of this console and its 12 teraflops of graphics power. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the PS5, as Sony is no longer attending E3.
