"Overwatch 2" is in the works, and Blizzard has been fairly tight-lipped about the multiplayer shooter sequel, revealing only a few characters and screenshots and not much else. However, thanks to a recent livestream, we can now watch two and a half hours of Overwatch 2 gameplay. In Overwatch 2, players will play in teams of five instead of six like in the previous game. [The live stream was made available on Blizzard's official YouTube channel. Overwatch personalities Matt "Mr. X" Morello and Mitch "Uber" Leslie hosted Blizzard developers and popular Twitch streamers to showcase various maps, characters, and gameplay from Overwatch 2.

It would take too long to detail each and every feature Blizzard covered in the lengthy live stream. We do know, however, that the multiplayer teams will be five-person teams instead of the six-person teams of the previous game. We also know that various playable characters from the previous game will return, including Mercy, Winston, Leeper, Tracer, May, Zarya, Symmetra, and Genji. The players will still have to conquer waypoints, escort vehicles, and take down rivals as often as possible.

In short: If you like "Overwatch" but feel it needs a mild overhaul and a handful of new features, you're likely better off waiting for "Overwatch 2.

Playable characters will not have the same abilities as last time. In terms of passive abilities, heroes who deal damage will move faster, heroes who support other players will regain health, heroes who absorb damage will not get knocked back, and so on. Other heroes will have new secondary fire options for their weapons, their active abilities will change, or they will be completely reworked.

But for everything we learned about "Overwatch 2" in the stream, Blizzard has yet to answer one very important question: when is the game's release date? The release date, price, and supported platforms for "Overwatch 2" have yet to be determined. (It seems safe to assume it will be released on PC; Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PS5 are also likely. Beyond that, no one knows.)

Meanwhile, the original Overwatch is still going strong, with frequent updates and an active player base; Blizzard's underrated MOBA Heroes of the Storm also features quite a few Overwatch heroes, so that might be worth checking out.
