Panasonic has announced a new mirrorless camera, the Panasonic Lumix GH5M2, aimed at bloggers and YouTubers. And oddly enough, Panasonic also announced that an even better model will succeed it by the end of the year.

The Lumix GH5M2 is the follow-up to the excellent GH5, building on that model's already excellent video skills with a host of new features for aspiring screen stars. However, Panasonic has also announced that the GH6 will arrive in late 2021.

The GH5M2 is unashamedly targeted at bloggers and content creators and boasts many improvements over the GH5.

Chief among them are the ability to shoot 60p 10-bit, 4K video without cropping and the inclusion of a V-Log L profile for higher dynamic range and wider color gamut. Previously, V-Log L had to be purchased separately.

It is also possible to output 10-bit 4K video via HDMI while simultaneously recording internally. Nevertheless, the GH5M2's rich and advanced wireless live streaming capabilities are perhaps the most impressive upgrade.

On this front, bloggers can use the Panasonic Lumix Sync app to stream directly to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. It is worth noting that streaming in this way is limited to 1080p rather than 4K quality.

The GH5M2's new features are not limited to video; it has the same 20.3 megapixel sensor as the GH5 and a new anti-reflective coating that minimizes unwanted artifacts such as ghosting and flare in images.

Other improvements include autofocus. New deep learning AI allows the GH5M2 to recognize and snap on to animals, heads, and torsos. The camera's LCD screen has also been upgraded. It is brighter and has a slightly higher resolution of 1840k, but on the other hand, it is slightly smaller in size, from 3.2" to 3".

Finally, the camera's built-in image stabilization technology has been upgraded to 6.5 stops instead of the GH5's 5 stops.

So what about the GH6, which we know will be available by the end of 2021 and will feature a completely new sensor and processing engine? We also know that it will offer 4:2:2 10-bit DCI 4K/60p recording with unlimited recording time, 10-bit 4K video with ultra-fast 120p, and 10-bit 5.7K 60p video The GH6 will sell for about $2,500.

Fortunately, the GH5M2 will be somewhat more affordable at $1700 without a lens and is currently available for pre-order.
