As PlayStation Direct launches in Europe, it's becoming easier to re-stock the PS5

Gamers still looking for PS5 restocks are about to get a new retailer they can track down, as PlayStation Direct has been confirmed to launch in Europe.

Sony's official retail site, PlayStation Direct, first launched in the U.S. in September 2019 and sells the console, games, and accessories. It has been assumed for some time that this storefront would eventually launch in additional regions, and now Sony has confirmed it at an investor event.

As reported by VGC, PlayStation Direct will launch in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg before the end of Sony's current fiscal year, which ends in March 2022.

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated in his presentation: "PlayStation®Direct has achieved significant revenue in the US market in just over a year since its launch. With the launch of the service in Europe, we are planning another 300 percent growth during this fiscal year."

He stated.

According to the figures discussed in the same presentation, PlayStation Direct is expected to generate more than $600 million in revenue this fiscal year after bringing in $200 million in the past 12 months. In other words, this online retailer has clearly been a huge success for Sony, and no wonder the company is eager to expand rapidly.

This news could be quite significant with regard to the restocking of the PS5 in the UK and Europe. Primarily, for gamers who are still looking to get their hands on a PS5, more retailers will be able to track it down, more inventory will be reduced, and they may be able to get their hands on the console in the meantime.

The launch could actually affect stock levels at high street retailers, such as Game, Argos, and Currys PC World, which will have fewer allocations of the console as Sony keeps it in stock for sale at PlayStation Direct. This could result in a reduction in the number of consoles. Ultimately, cutting out the middle man will likely lead to a larger percentage of profits for Sony.

In the U.S., PlayStation Direct uses both an invite system and a virtual queue to handle restocking. These tools help to make the operation much smoother compared to retail restocking where they just open the doors and thousands of customers try to check out at the same time.

The opening of PlayStation Direct in Europe could provide gamers without a PS5 the opportunity to finally purchase the console without having to endlessly update product lists or fight website crashes.

While we await the launch of PlayStation Direct in Europe, the PS5 Restocking Hub will be tracking PS5 availability at major retailers. Please check back regularly as we will update you with the latest inventory information.
