It is unclear if the series will be associated in any way with the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movie More likely, it will be something more family oriented that fans will appreciate
Netflix's announcement of "Sonic Prime" is a good sign for the children's market, with WildBrain (which owns "Teletubbies," "Degrassi," "Yo Gabba Gabba! and other properties) and Man Of Action Entertainment ("Ben 10," "Big Hero 6") confirmed rumors of their involvement in the project
But here is what we do know, and what we expect to find out more about when:
Netflix has confirmed a release date for Sonic Prime 2022, which was accidentally leaked last December At the time, the film did not have a title
An official press release from WildBrain revealed that Sonic Prime will air in 24 episodes There are no clues as to whether it is a stand-alone project or if Netflix will order a second season
Below is the Sonic Prime logo tweeted by Netflix The gold of Sonic's name appears to be shattered, which makes one wonder about the state of his golden ring, while the word Prime appears to be a blue blur
I first learned about Sonic's Netflix show via a deleted tweet from the @NXOnNetflix account (captured by the excellent @Wario64)
The second feature-length Sonic movie is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022
Neither Netflix nor Man of Action have revealed any details We do know only that Sonic will appear in Sonic Prime Nevertheless, we have reason to believe that the involvement of a second character is confirmed
On the Sonic Central May 27 stream, Man of Action's Joe Kelly suggested that Robotnik would be in the game, gesturing to an image behind him That image, which can be seen below, appears to be a bald man with a familiar mustache
Unfortunately, Roger Craig Smith, who has voiced the character in various media since 2010, will not be participating; in January 2021, Smith tweeted a broken blue heart, "Welp, 10 years was an amazing run A new Into the zone!" He tweeted, suggesting that he was stepping down Sega confirmed this with a second tweet, "Roger, thank you for all you've done for Sonic"
According to the press release, we will be jumping through time and space Sonic Prime will be "a high-octane adventure in which the fate of a strange new multiverse is placed in his gloved hands Sonic's adventure is more than a race to save the universe, it is a journey of self-discovery and redemption"
Sonic's journey takes place in the "strange and mysterious Shatterverse," it was revealed in the Sonic Central May 27 stream
While the show is geared toward Sonic fans of all ages, the press release notes that "Sonic Prime aims to captivate the imagination of audiences ages 6-11"
There is no trailer (yet) With a release date of 2022, we expect it to be announced as early as E3 2021, which will likely take place in June
