Battlefield 4 is now free — if you have Amazon Prime

PC gamers who are Amazon Prime members will get Battlefield 4 for free. Players will be limited to EA's Origin platform, but it's better than getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick, so grit your teeth and get over it.

You can get the full game on Origin by logging into your Amazon account and visiting the Prime Gaming website; Amazon Prime members will receive a code for the standard edition of Battlefield 4 by June 21. However, there is no rush to redeem at Origin; you can redeem at Origin until July 21. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you redeem immediately.

If you are not a Prime member, you can get a code for Battlefield 4 by signing up for a 30-day free trial and setting up an account. If you've never dabbled in this game before, I found the campaign to be a bit underwhelming, but I did like the multiplayer mode.

While some have lamented the abandonment of Bad Company, the main series has been well received, with Battlefield 5 being described in our review as "the best in the series since Bad Company 2."

There have been no Battlefield games since then, but the franchise will return later this year with Battlefield 6. In fact, following numerous trailer leaks, EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 will be released on June 9 and will bear the name "Battlefield" rather than a numbered entry in the series.

The release is set for 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. BST, and an alpha test of Battlefield 6 may take place in July. So rather than dawdle for another week, download your free copy of Battlefield 4 and pass the time with online multiplayer in the meantime.
