Sony withdrew Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store last December after it suffered from a terrible bug, but the game appears to be making a comeback. Interestingly, Sony recommends not playing it on PS4-based consoles.

According to Polygon, Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store on June 21, according to a regulatory disclosure by developer CD Projekt Red. In a statement to Polygon, Sony confirmed the resurrection, but recommended playing the game on either the PS4 Pro or PS5 systems, as older hardware will cause performance issues with the game.

"SIE has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will reappear on the PlayStation Store beginning June 21, 2021. While CD Projekt Red is working to improve stability across all platforms, the PS4 version will continue to experience performance issues, and SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience."

Sony delisted Cyberpunk 2077 last December after growing outrage from gamers who complained about the buggy game. Sony issued refunds, but the relationship between CD Projekt Red and Sony appears to have deteriorated somewhat. As of May of this year, CD Projekt Red still does not know when Sony will re-list the game. Considering that there are over 100 million gamers in the PlayStation ecosystem, the delisting of the game was a major blow to CD Projekt Red. Net income fell 64.5% in the first quarter, likely due to lower Cyberpunk sales.

Since the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has provided numerous patches and hotfixes to keep the game running at an acceptable level on consoles. While the updates have been helpful, they have still caused problems for gamers.

YouTube channel JB11Games recently uploaded a video of Cyberpunk 2077, playing the game on various systems and providing commentary. According to the host, the game is still not up to ideal playing conditions, although it is fine on previous generation machines. However, it is at least an improvement. Small bugs and performance during missions seem to be where CD Projekt Red is making the biggest progress. Still, the hosts seem to feel that the game is most ideal to play on PS5 and Xbox Series X, especially when the current generation console-specific versions are available. It is still unclear when these current-gen console versions will appear.

In January, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński issued an apology detailing the company's failures; in May, the company updated its roadmap for the game, explaining plans to continue improving the title for long-term success. This includes improved stability, more patches and updates, and free DLC.
