I wanted to participate in Prime Day 2021 Like the rest of the world, I was looking forward to perusing the list of Prime Day deals and taking advantage of the sales I was interested in However, contrary to my hopes that Amazon might give me a few dollars less, there was one product I was looking for that might finally make me feel like a smart consumer
Sadly, it never materialized And now, as the second day of Amazon's two-day sale event draws to a close, it looks like it's just a matter of luck whether this particular device will get the Prime Day discount So, in the hopes that this little prayer will be heard, please allow me to look to the heavens and shout to the Prime Day gods, namely Jeff Bezos on his spaceship in low Earth orbit
Apply the Prime Day discount to the new Apple TV 4k Siri Remote, you cowards
Yes, yes, I hear your derision Because the Siri Remote is currently on sale for $59 on Amazon
This is all true, but the inherently low price hasn't stopped Amazon from discounting a few bucks to sweeten the deal on Prime Day before Yes, paying the full $59 for a Siri remote won't break me But would I want to pay $49 instead, with Amazon's help? The answer to that question is, "Yes, especially"
I could just break down and buy a new Apple TV 4K, including the coveted upgrade to the remote control Amazon is offering that discount on Prime Day, bringing the cost of the set-top box down $10 to $169 However, my current Apple TV works fine and the 4K resolution support doesn't seem to be of much benefit to my 15 year old TV All I want is a remote control
Anyone wondering why the new remote is such an important item for me has obviously never used the previous model I've outlined the sins of that remote before, but to summarize, it's easy to lose, difficult to operate without looking directly at the remote, and more sensitive than a teenager who has read a YA novel The new Siri remote is superior in every way you can see
Unfortunately, the discount I was hoping for was disappointing This is because once you start Prime Day shopping, it's easy to add another item to your cart My wife suggested I buy a Samsung 32" frame QLED TV Instead, the aforementioned 15-year-old TV lives to fight it at least until the holiday shopping season Perhaps by then Amazon will have heard my prayers
