If you feel your iPhone 12 needs a little boost to get through the day, Apple has an accessory that can keep your phone powered up The new MagSafe Battery Pack is compatible with any iPhone 12 model and attaches to the back with a magnet to wirelessly power up your phone
As you can guess from the name, the $99 Apple MagSafe Battery Pack uses the same MagSafe technology Apple introduced in its iPhone 12 lineup released last fall And it addresses one of the few weaknesses in Apple's iPhone lineup
Apple's latest models have many strengths, but battery life is not at the top of the list except for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which narrowly ranks in our Best Smartphone Battery Life list, the other three iPhone 12 models are all below average in our Tom's Guide Battery Test, which found them to be below average for smartphones
Apple does not mention how much longer the MagSafe Battery Pack will extend your iPhone 12's battery life However, the MagSafe Battery Pack page on Apple's online store states that you can plug the Lightning cable into the accessory for a 15W charging speed The battery pack also supports 20W, and that type of adapter can be used for faster charging
Unfortunately, the MagSafe Battery Pack comes with neither a 20W adapter nor a 15W Lightning cable Therefore, you will need to provide your own or purchase them separately
It is also unclear how bulky the MagSafe Battery Pack will be on your phone Apple does not list dimensions or weight on the product page Presumably, the MagSafe magnets will hold the battery in place, but the pockets for both the iPhone 12 model and the battery pack will be tight
The situation will reportedly improve with the iPhone 13, and there are rumors that Apple will opt for a larger iPhone 13 battery in the new iPhone to be released this fall But that is little comfort to iPhone 12 buyers who are looking for more battery life during the day The new MagSafe Battery Pack will help address that dilemma
Apple is now taking pre-orders for the MagSafe Battery Pack The accessory will ship next week
