Nvidia GeForce RTX3080Super GPUs can power PCs and laptops next Year

Nvidia just recently launched the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, and now it is rumored that two more high-end graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 3080 Super and GeForce RTX 3070 Super, will arrive in 2022.

VideoCardz initially reported that these two GPUs would be mobile processors rather than desktop PC cards and would be available early next year. However, this report was cited and tweeted by prominent leaker kopite7kimi, who claimed that the GeForce RTX 3080 Super and GeForce RTX 3070 Super would not appear only on laptops. [In February they tipped off exactly when the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti would appear and video memory would drop from 20GB to 12GB. So this rumor may be worth noting.

Nvidia introduced "Super" branding for its previous generation GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards, and models like the GeForce RTX 2080 Super and GeForce RTX 2070 Super, without significantly changing the underlying technology and offered modest performance gains over non-Super equivalents; the GeForce RTX 30 series has been plagued by inventory shortages since its launch, but Nvidia was able to repeatedly introduce more powerful Super models instead of focusing on next-generation cards.

VideoCardz reports suggest that both the GeForce RTX 3080 Super and GeForce RTX 3070 Super, or at least the supposed mobile versions, may use the new Nvidia GA103 graphics processor The two cards will be the same as the existing non-Super cards. Both are said to maintain the GDDR6 VRAM amounts of existing non-Super cards: 8GB for the GeForce RTX 3070 Super and 16GB for the GeForce RTX 3080 Super.

If indeed a desktop version is also on the way, it could be quite a conundrum for those still waiting to find GeForce RTX 3080 stock. Especially if, like many PC owners, you are already on the waiting list for one of the current cards, should you continue to hold out for the original, or should you cancel your order and trust that you will get one of the newer, more powerful Super GPUs?

It would be a tough dilemma if inventory shortages are still plaguing the PC hardware market months from now. In China, some former cryptocurrency miners are selling graphics cards below MSRP, while in Vietnam, one retailer is selling very rare, limited edition GPUs as ready-made mining setups.
