Arlo, a developer of home security cameras and other smart home products, has made a major change to the way its subscription service works. The company promises that the changes will make the whole process even easier.

Arlo rebranded its cloud subscription plans today, launching Arlo Secure and Arlo Secure Plus. While some of the names and features will change, the actual pricing will remain the same.

Arlo Secure is the basic subscription plan currently offered, at $2.99/month for one camera and $9.99/month for unlimited. Previously it was limited to 10 cameras, so this is definitely a bonus.

Arlo Secure offers up to 30 days of video storage at up to 2K resolution, smart interactive notifications, activity zones, a "call a friend" feature, and many other useful features. Most important is Ai, which can distinguish between people, luggage, vehicles, and animals. Subscribers also receive a 10% discount on future purchases of Arlo products.

Meanwhile, the $14.99/month Arlo Secure Plus plan offers much the same. As before, it can store 4K-resolution video clips applicable to Arlo Ultra and Arlo Ultra 2 cameras.

Secure Plus, however, offers a new "Emergency Response" feature that dispatches fire, police, and medical personnel to the location of the camera at the touch of a button. Users can also provide Arlo's emergency response team with gate codes and other important information, which can be passed on to responders as needed.

Of course, a cloud subscription is not mandatory if you don't want to pay for it. However, those who forgo Arlo's subscription plan will only have access to minimal features, especially access to live video streams and motion detection.

Arlo has announced that a 3-month free trial of Arlo Secure Plus will be bundled with any hardware purchase. This allows you to try the best that an Arlo subscription has to offer before you hand over your money.
